In a new film, Tegen Williams captures the intense final days leading up to spring / summer inspired by Molly Goddard’s baby clothes. Collection 2022
Molly goddard has released a new short film that retraces the behind the scenes of his last Spring / Summer 2022 show, itself presented in film form during London Fashion Week. Directed by Tegan Williams, this new film offers the public unlimited access to the final days leading up to the event. Here we see the process of creating a show – fittings, rehearsals, coffee mugs, set construction, hem alterations, baking, pattern corraling. A former family friend and former model of Molly Goddard herself, Williams is a familiar presence at the studio and her sense of naturalness in these spaces can be felt throughout the film.
“I’ve known everyone on Molly Goddard’s team for so long – Molly, Alice (Goddard, stylist) and Tessa (Griffith, CEO) since I was born,” says Williams. “I feel super comfortable in the studio, sometimes too comfortable I forget why I’m here! While she has directed BTS movies in previous seasons, as well as directed and edited the A / W21 collection from a distance, Williams’ long-term relationships proved especially crucial and meaningful this season when Goddard was going through the moments. intense with her baby Frank, who makes various adorable cameos throughout the film.
“Having my newborn son with me every time I walked into the studio was a challenge and it made me grateful to work with Tegen and Alice: people I have always known and feel very fond of. comfortable, ”says Goddard. Having started designing for S / S 22 when she was eight months pregnant, Goddard was influenced by baby clothes and the collection went on to fill with smocked A-line tops, bouncy ruffled dresses and ballet flats.
While cuddling Frank was Williams’ biggest highlight, she was just as excited to work with the “choreographer god,” as Goddard describes it, Les Child. “Working with Les is always a highlight! I was so glad he said yes to working on this series. He’s a legend and while he doesn’t like me filming him he’s too bright to ignore it! Williams said. In another season without an audience, Child collaborated with the team to create a safe digital way to showcase the collection while delivering the excitement of a real show. Although, as Williams says, “Molly’s clothes don’t make a big splash, they’re shiny anyway.”
