NEW ORLEANS (press release) – In the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, with needed baby supplies often hard to find, Plush Appeal, the parent company of The Mardi Gras spot, announced its partnership with the Junior League of New Orleans (JLNO) to organize a diaper drive as part of National Diaper Need Awareness Week. Starting Monday, September 27, shoppers are invited to bring diapers and supplies to the Mardi Gras Spot to support families and caregivers in the area in need of supplies. Participants will receive a gift in addition to an exclusive in-store discount at the Mardi Gras Spot.

“The need for diapers is a huge source of stress for new parents, so we are grateful for the opportunity to help in any way we can,” said Alyssa Fletchinger Higgins, vice president of Plush Appeal LLC and mother of three children. “Diapers and wipes can be so expensive and lack of access to diapers, especially in the aftermath of a storm like Hurricane Ida, can lead to many health problems for toddlers.”

In America, one in three mothers don’t have enough diapers to keep their babies clean, dry and healthy. It is also common to see an increased shortage of necessary diapers and supplies before and after a disaster such as Hurricane Ida. The need for diapers has a profound and complex impact on the physical and mental well-being of children and their caregivers, and health risks include rashes and urinary tract infections.

In the past year alone, JLNO has donated over half a million diapers to families in New Orleans through fundraising campaigns with organizations such as Plush Appeal.

Plush Appeal accepts donations at its The Mardi Gras Spot retail store at 2812 Toulouse St. New Orleans, LA, 70119 Monday, September 27 through Saturday, October 2. The store is open and accepts donations 9 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am to 2 pm Saturday. Donors will receive a $ 5 discount on a same-day purchase of $ 25 or more, plus a free glitter gel in Cha-Ching Gold or Callin ‘Baton Rouge Purple and Gold.

In addition to unused disposable diapers of any size, type or brand, the Mardi Gras Spot donation site will accept unopened and unused diaper wipes and creams. Open packages of unused disposable diapers will be accepted if the size is labeled. All donations will be distributed through the Junior League of New Orleans’s Diaper Bank, which has been helping families access the supplies they need since 2014.
