STEVENS POINT – Two local pilots from the Stevens Point Pilots Association participated in Operation Airdrop for relief efforts with charity flights to Mayfield, KY, carrying the necessary humanitarian supplies to aid the victims of this disaster. Pilots Rick Rettler and Jeff Martin traveled to Mayfield on December 20 to help those whose lives have been devastated by recent tornadoes.

Members of the Stevens Point Pilots Association and other community supporters donated cash to purchase or provide supplies like blankets, hats, gloves, tents, air mattresses, winter clothing , diapers, children’s toys, infant formula, sanitary supplies, flashlights and many other items totaling approximately $ 5,000.

Rettler nad Martin begins to put away his equipment.

Many families have lost everything they owned and this response will make a difference in their lives.

The devastation was so obvious and easily visible that one couldn’t help but feel the raw emotions of those affected. When our pilots landed at Mayfield KY there were people lining up to receive the items delivered which were essential to help their recovery. Those who helped unload our planes were extremely grateful that we came. It was clear to Rick and Jeff that the residents of the area had endured a lot, but despite all the support they were receiving, they were in good spirits nonetheless.
