Village Rotarians give gifts to Harbor View students

In early December, members of the Rotary Club of The Villages Evening Rotarians purchased gifts for 30 girls and boys at Harbor View Elementary School, Rotary Club spokesperson Sue Bodenner wrote in an email. Each child was given a pair of shoes, shirt, pants and something from their wish list, Bodener said.

“The evening Rotary club has been a great help with our Christmas Angel project,” said Susie Fister, a guidance staff member at Harbor View Elementary School, quoted in the email.

“Our members have not hesitated to sign up to help make Christmas special for one or more students in need,” said Julie Schmied, president of the Rotary Club, in the email. “Their wish lists included everything from art supplies to a Mountain Biking.”

Elizabeth Giffin, auxiliary member of the Marion County Veterans Council, 17, lays a wreath at Highlands Memorial Park at the grave of Dr William F. Kohland, a WWII Navy veteran who died on September 7, 2003 at the age of 77.

Volunteers lay over 1,000 wreaths at veterans’ graves

About 150 volunteers, including members of Forest High School Air Force JRROTC, arrived in early December 19 at Highlands Memorial Park to honor veterans and distribute 1,008 wreaths at veterans’ graves.

The organizers praised the participation of the volunteers and all the wreaths were laid before 11 a.m.

Former Congressman Donates $ 5,000 to Community Policing Program

Former US Representative Cliff Stearns surprised Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken with a $ 5,000 donation at a Kiwanis Club of Ocala meeting, according to an email from Scott Hackmyer. The donation will be used to support the Chief’s community policing programs and specifically the Polar Patrol Ice Cream Truck, which Chief Balken has launched.

Realtors’ toy drive donates to local children’s charities

Members of the Ocala / Marion County Realtors Association’s Community Outreach Committee recently helped sort out children’s toys that were donated for their annual Christmas toy drive, Mekenzie McCracken wrote in an e -mail.

Toy donations were made to Kimberly’s Center for Child Protection, Kids Central and the Marion County Boys & Girls Club.
