Cowdenbeath Charity Knitting Gathers Hundreds of Items for Those Who Need It Most

Those in need will once again receive knits after a charity event took place last month.

The Cowdenbeath Flower show was canceled last month due to Covid restrictions, however, the committee agreed that even though there would be no show, their ever-popular charity knitting should still continue.

With this in mind, committee member June Miller has agreed to take charge of the charity knitting organization.

The chosen charities this year were the Edinburgh Baby Unit and Acorn Aid, the Crossgates-based charity that will distribute the blankets to wheelchair users in Bosnia and other local associations and groups.

A spokesperson for the committee told The Times: “Colin Bird, the president of the company, said the normal flower show weekend date, usually the second weekend in September, was used as the date. Closing.

“Over this weekend the articles were counted and there were over 350 different articles to send to the different groups.

“Colin and June would like to thank all the knitters for their hard work and for donating the items to the company, they would also like to thank ‘The Clearing’ on Cowdenbeath High Street for serving as a collection point for the knitting.

“Knitted items ranged from tiny baby hats to premium baby clothes, blankets, toys and doll clothes.

“A draw was held for each item a knitter put in and the winners including the 1st £ 25 – Margaret Paxton Crossford, the 2nd £ 15 – June Miller Crossgates, the 3rd £ 10 – Margaret Paxton Crossford and the 4th £ 5 Marion McDuffie Inverkeithing.

“Everything is going well, the flower show will be back in 2022. For the flower show to continue, we will need several new members because our committee members have fallen since the last show and we urgently need to new members to keep this very popular community event going.

“If anyone is interested, please contact Colin Bird or the Cowdenbeath Horticultural Society Facebook page.”
